Three of the top four seeds feature in an unmissable double-header of Second Round action at Lakeside on Wednesday.

The BDO's flagship tournament enters its business end as the Last 16 of the men's competition commences and Round One of the Ladies' event draws to a close.

Three players to have lifted this famous trophy return to the iconic Lakeside stage in a bid to reach the Quarter-Finals, including reigning champion Glen Durrant.

The number one seed aims to come through a tricky test in the shape of Stockport's Darryl Fitton - the 2016 World Trophy winner and three-time Lakeside semi-finalist.

Durrant kick-started his title defence with a routine straight sets defeat of Tyneside's Gary Robson on Sunday afternoon and will be keen to kick on from a solid 95 average.

The Teessider, a quarter-finalist at the recent Grand Slam, remains red hot favourite to retain this crown but will be wary of the challenge faced against 'The Dazzler' - a BDO stalwart who drew upon his vast experience to edge out Australia's Justin Thompson 3-2 on Monday with a 170 checkout to clinch victory.

Fourth seed Scott Mitchell, who recorded the highest winning average of the opening round (98.70), looks to end the debut run of Belgium's Andy Baetens.

Mitchell, the 2015 champion, defied a 99 average from Lithuania's Darius Labanauskas on the way to a thrilling last-set triumph, will be hoping to maintain that level against the dangerous newcomer.

Baetens demonstrated the sort of form which led him to three BDO ranking titles in 2017 as he dispatched Scott Baker 3-2 in a match littered with big scores.

Last year's beaten finalist Danny Noppert aims to put paid to the challenge of number two seed Mark McGeeney when the duo collide in the pick of the afternoon's ties.

Noppert is yet to drop a set en route to the Last 16, having breezed through his Preliminary Round tie with America's Joe Chaney before punishing a below-par Richie Edwards.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a dream run to the final on his Lakeside debut 12 months ago and is out to go one better at the second time of asking, less than a week after the death of his mother.

Two-time Lakeside Champion Scott Waites bids to avert a potential scalp at the hands of emerging star Dean Reynolds.

Waites, who is unseeded in this year's draw, knocked out fellow BDO stalwart Ross Montgomery 3-1 in his opener and will be poised for a similarly tough test from the highly-rated Welshman.

Reynolds, seeded number 12, defeated compatriot Chris Harris 3-1 to gain his first taste of victory on the Lakeside stage at the third attempt, but will be determined to extend his ground-breaking run at the expense of the former Grand Slam champion.

Tenth seed Willem Mandigers is another player entering uncharted territory after brushing aside Nick Kenny in straight sets to earn his first win at Lakeside, and the Dutch marksman now faces veteran Wayne Warren.
Warren, 55, marked only his third Lakeside appearance since 2005 with a dramatic 3-1 scalp of Wesley Harms, in which he averaged 95.

Warren is one of four Welsh hopefuls left standing in the competition and will again be backed by a vociferous contingent of supporters.

The conclusion of Round One of the Ladies' competition sees third seed Lorraine Winstanley up against former PDC Women's world finalist Tricia Wright in the afternoon session.

Winstanley enters the event in arguably the best form of her career, having claimed her first major title at last year's Winmau World Masters.

Her opponent is incredibly making her Lakeside debut at the age of 59 and is aiming to avenge a 4-3 defeat to Winstanley in September's World Masters Semi-Finals.

The action gets underway from 12.30pm GMT at the Lakeside in Frimley Green, with all men's matches to be contested over the best of seven sets and women's ties best of three. All sets are the best of five legs.

Any match which goes to a deciding set must be won by two clear legs. If the score in the final set reaches 5-5, a sudden-death leg will be played.
