Michael Smith has revealed he expects to win a major title and a European Tour title before the end of the 2018 season.

The world number nine claimed his first televised title at the Shanghai Masters earlier this year and enjoyed a superb run to the final of the Premier League.

Smith, a former World Youth Champion, was also denied by Max Hopp in the final of the German Darts Open and is keen to add to his tally of four European Tour titles before the year is out.

"I still want that big title," Smith told Live Darts.

"It annoyed me that I didn't win one of the Europeans, I lost to Max [Hopp] in the final, now there's only one left because I missed a few.

"I wanted to win a European and a major and that was my mini grand slam.

"I'd have won a ProTour, UK Open qualifier, European, a World Series and a major so I've got one left I want to win in Gottingen and I want to win a big TV title as well this year.

"The World Series isn't a ranked major and Gary [Anderson] was giving me stick because he said I called it a 'major' but it's not, it's a TV title.

"Any win I get is an achievement for me, I just love to win and hate to lose."

Smith has been handed a First Round show-down with Adrian Lewis in the World Grand Prix in Dublin on Monday, with both players unseeded in the draw.

Smith defeated 'Jackpot' in the final of a UK Open qualifying event in April and has brushed off suggestions that he has been given the toughest possible opening tie.

"He's got the toughest, I haven't," said Smith.

"The double start is a leveller for everyone.

"Even if you give someone a three-dart head start it's a long way to come back.

"If I turn up and Adrian turns up, it'll be a good game but if one of us doesn't turn up it's going to be an easy game for the other."
