Five-time World Snooker Champion Ronnie O'Sullivan and former England international Kevin Keegan are among a number of sporting stars to have paid tribute to Phil Taylor ahead of his retirement at the end of the year.

Taylor will call time on his illustrious career following the World Championship, bringing the curtain down on three decades at the top of the sport.

The 57-year-old has picked up more than 100 major titles, including 16 World Championships and 16 World Matchplay crowns, making him undisputedly the greatest player ever to raise a dart.

In an emotional video produced by Taylor's equipment sponsor Target Darts, his close friends off the oche - O'Sullivan and Keegan - were among those to record personal video messages to 'The Power'.

Snooker legend O'Sullivan, a regular in the World Championship crowd at Alexandra Palace, said: "I want to just congratulate you on your retirement.

"There's no other sportsman on the planet, and I'm talking about all sports, including Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, you name them all, there's only one governor and that was you, Phil.

"You were the master of the masters, it's a pleasure to know you, legend. You can still bash them up even if you fancy coming back from retirement!"

Former Liverpool, Newcastle and England forward Keegan added: "I know this is your last year and you're going to retire, but my advice to you is don't do it - you're the best!

"Whatever you decide to do, you'll always be number one for me. Enjoy your life and it's been brilliant watching you over all these years."

A host of Taylor's darting colleagues from past and present also paid tribute to his unparralled achievements, including his great rival Raymond van Barneveld, former mentor Eric Bristow, Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson.
