Live Darts on Friday: Auckland Darts Masters 2017 Day One preview and order of play

The fourth World Series event of the season commences on Friday as the eight PDC stars each face off against a regional qualifier in Auckland.

The first of three events in consecutive weeks Down Under features a selection of the sport's biggest names alongside a host of capable qualifiers as they battle it out for the 70,000 NZ$ top prize.

The pick of the First Round ties sees namesakes Gary and Kyle Anderson collide as the defending champion meets Australia's number two.

Gary defeated Adrian Lewis in last year's final to claim this title and will be keen to keep hold of the trophy in the absence of rival Michael van Gerwen.

Kyle picked up his first PDC ranking title in last Saturday's Players Championship 17 in Barnsley and thus enters this event on the crest of a wave.

Recent World Matchplay finalist Peter Wright faces a tough opening test against reigning World Youth Champion Corey Cadby.

Cadby burst onto the scene during last year's Perth Masters when he defeated Phil Taylor before going on to claim the Youth crown and make his debut in the World Championship.

The confident 22-year-old now has his sights set on another big-name scalp as he comes up against the world number three - who is yet to claim World Series silverware.

Wright reached the Semi-Finals of the Dubai Masters before suffering back-to-back Quarter-Final exits in Shanghai and Las Vegas and will be hoping to mount a serious title challenge this week.

Phil Taylor returns to action for the first time since his incredible World Matchplay triumph as he faces newcomer Darren Herewini.

Taylor stormed to glory at The Winter Gardens a fortnight ago and will be aiming to pick up from where he left off as he continues his farewell tour before calling time on his career at the end of the season.

Daryl Gurney, runner-up in the US Masters and semi-finalist at the World Matchplay, aims to continue his terrific run of form by overcoming Rob Modra - who featured in the 2016 BDO Lakeside Championship.

A tasty tussle sees former world finalist Simon Whitlock up against New Zealand World Cup star Cody Harris - winner of seven events on home soil this year.

Raymond van Barneveld, runner-up here in 2015, opens up with a clash against Warren Parry - who famously knocked Van Gerwen out of the 2014 Sydney Masters.

Michael Smith marks his World Series debut with a tie against DPNZ number one Rob Szabo, while multiple major winner James Wade meets local qualifier Mark Cleaver.

The action gets underway from 8am BST, with all matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs at the Trusts Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand.
