Kyle Anderson dethrones Gary Anderson at the Auckland Darts Masters as Cadby ousts Wright

Confident youngster Cadby celebrates

Kyle Anderson ended the reign of Gary Anderson at the Auckland Darts Masters with a superb opening night victory on Friday, while Corey Cadby dumped out Peter Wright at the Trusts Arena.

Australian star Anderson continued the clinical form which led him to glory in last Saturday's Players Championship event in Barnsley as he sent his namesake packing with an average of 102.91.

It was Gary Anderson who began the match brightly with a 180 and a 138 checkout to clinch the opening leg before 'The Original' reeled off the next three to take command.

The Scot them secured two of the following three legs to trail 4-3, before wiring double 15 for a 150 checkout and allowing his opponent to move to within one of victory.

The two-time World Champion finished 100 to prolong the match, but Kyle made no mistake in finishing the job on double eight to seal a memorable victory which also included five 180s.

Young sensation Cadby marked his first televised match for eight months with a magnificent 6-4 scalp of UK Open Champion Wright.

Cadby, who burst onto the scene by defeating Phil Taylor in last year's Perth Masters, pulled off another World Series upset as he landed six maximums on the way to seeing off 'Snakebite'.

Cadby kicked off the contest with a 180 but missed two darts at doubles to allow Wright to draw first blood.

The 22-year-old, though, took the next two legs to hit the front, only to waste five darts at doubles in the following leg as Wright restored parity.

Cadby finished 78 to regain the lead, but Wright replied with a 74 finish to level before hitting double ten to regain the upper-hand at 4-3.

Cadby, though, responded with double ten before taking out 112 to move to the brink of victory - which he duly wrapped up with double 16 in leg ten.

Cadby will now face Michael Smith in Saturday's Quarter-Finals after he whitewashed Rob Szabo 6-0 in the opening match of the evening.

Smith marked his World Series debut in impressive fashion as he averaged 103.66 and hit four 180s in swiftly dispatching the New Zealander.

World Matchplay champion Phil Taylor was made to work hard for his 6-4 victory over local newcomer Darren Herewini.

Taylor opened up a 3-1 lead with a high checkout of 101, but only for the qualifier to finish 68 and double two for a level game amid a spell of missed doubles from the Stoke legend.

Taylor finished double 16 and 69 to restore daylight at 5-3, and after Herewini had hit back with an 11-darter, 'The Power' closed out victory with a 69 finish on double 16.

Simon Whitlock battled his way past New Zealand number one Cody Harris 6-4 in a match dominated by missed doubles.

Harris had produced a brilliant 122 checkout on the way to levelling at three-all, before Whitlock replied with a clinical ten-darter in leg seven.

Harris against restore parity, but the former world finalist claimed the next two legs to get over the line despite an average of just 87.

Raymond van Barneveld, the 2015 Auckland runner-up, survived a minor scare from Kiwi thrower Warren Parry before sealing a 6-4 win.

Parry had taken out 107 to level up at three apiece before Barney reeled off three of the next four legs to set up a glamour tie with his nemesis Taylor.

US Masters finalist Daryl Gurney safely saw off Rob Modra for the loss of just two legs, hitting three 180s and a high checkout of 103 along the way.

James Wade also averted a potential skin as he overcame Mark Cleaver by the same scoreline despite ten missed darts at doubles.
