Four players yet to reach a Grand Slam of Darts Semi-Final will vie to break new ground in Wolverhampton on Friday.

For the first time in the 11-year history of the cross-code tournament, there is no English representation in the Last Eight, with seven in-form hopefuls aiming to end Michael van Gerwen's three-year stranglehold on the trophy.

The first two Quarter-Finals take place at the Aldersley Leisure Village on Friday evening as the big guns look to flex their muscles over the long distance format.

The opening fixture sees former Champions League of Darts winner Mensur Suljovic up against nine-dart hero Dimitri van den Bergh.

The clash represents a re-run of this year's German Masters final, which Suljovic won 8-2, avenging his four sets to nil defeat to the Belgian in the Last 16 of last year's World Championship.

Suljovic is appearing in his second successive Grand Slam Quarter-Final, having scraped through his group in second spot despite just one win from this three matches, before knocking out World Champion Rob Cross 10-7 in the Last 16.

The world number seven is appearing in his sixth televised Quarter-Final of the year, having notably finished runner-up in the World Matchplay, and will look to dictate the tempo of this long-haul contest.

Van den Bergh continued his remarkable rise by landing the first nine-dart finish of his career on the way a 10-6 victory over Stephen Bunting, scooping a provisional £25,000 bonus providing no other player matches the feat this weekend.

The reigning World Youth Champion has enjoyed a superb return to form this month after a quiet spell on the circuit and is now aiming to reach his first major Semi-Final.

The second match of the evening sees Premier League duo Simon Whitlock and Gerwyn Price lock horns for the second time this week.

Whitlock produced an outstanding comeback from 4-1 down to defeat Price 5-4 in Group F with the aid of two 170 checkouts, securing second spot behind 'The Ice Man'.

European Championship finalist Whitlock has ended a nine-year wait for a Quarter-Final in Wolverhampton and will be out to do the double over the passionate Welshman.

Price has enjoyed a sublime return to form in recent months, stemming from his victory at the International Open in September, following which he has reached the Quarter-Finals of the World Grand Prix and European Championship and Semi-Finals of the World Series.

While Whitlock overcame world number two Peter Wright 10-6 in the Last 16, Price powered his way past debutant Josh Payne 10-5 thanks to a run of five consecutive legs.

Both players are sitting on a tournament average of 17 and look set to contest a gripping, close-run encounter over a match play format exceeded only by the World Matchplay.

The action gets underway from 7pm GMT, with matches to be contested over the best of 31 legs.
