Phil Taylor v Gary Anderson: Premier League Darts 2017 preview - Power eyeing crucial points

Phil Taylor continues his quest for a Premier League play-off place with a crucial clash against Gary Anderson in Belfast on Thursday evening.

Taylor, the six-time Premier League champion, looks to climb back in to the all-important top four following his two fixtures at The SSE Arena.

Taylor starts the night on 13 points, one adrift of Raymond van Barneveld in fourth, and faces a tasty opener against two-time Premier League winner Anderson before returning to face Dave Chisnall later in the evening.

The duo played out a gripping 6-6 draw in the reverse fixture last month and could be poised for a similarly close-run battle this time around.

Anderson claimed three points from a possible four in Liverpool last week and will be keen to pick up from where he left off in a 7-2 rout of Peter Wright - averaging 113 in the process.

The world number two occupies third spot, but only by virtue of his superior legs difference to Barney and could be left looking over his shoulder should he fail to win here.

Anderson has failed to defeat 'The Power' in their last four Premier League meetings, but ending that run in Northern Ireland could see him take a huge step towards securing his play-off spot.

Taylor has somewhat of a foothold over 'The Flying Scotsman' of late, having lost just three of their last 12 encounters in all competitions stretching back almost two years.

Their latest encounter gets underway from around 8.00pm BST and will be contested over the best of 12 legs at the SSE Arena in Belfast.

Player's view:

Taylor: "It's a big challenge because Gary and Dave are two of the biggest scorers in the game, but I'm looking forward to it.

"Every point is crucial at the moment because everyone's in with a shout. The crowd are always great in Belfast so it should be a good night."
