Players Championship Finals 2017 Day Two: Evening Session preview and order of play

The action continues thick and fast at the Players Championship Finals on Saturday as the 16 remaining hopefuls vie for a place in the Quarter-Finals at Butlins Minehead.

The early rounds have laid claim to a plethora of big names, with ten of the top 16 seeds having bowed out, seven of which at the first hurdle.

Play continues across two stages this evening as a host of underdogs aim to continue their charge in the penultimate ranking tournament of the season.

The stand-out tie of the Third Round sees number one seed Rob Cross up against a rejuvenated Adrian Lewis to kick off proceedings on the Main Stage.

Cross produced an exhibition of finishing in his 6-2 win over Steve Lennon this afternoon, landing four ton-plus checkouts and averaging 104 to send out a message to his rivals.

Having missed the last two major tournaments, Lewis appears to be making up for lost time, and using a set of Raymond van Barneveld darts, 'Jackpot' now aims to dispatch the sport's most improved player in what should be a thrilling contest.

Darren Webster looks to record only a second career victory over Michael van Gerwen in 13 attempts when the duo collide in a repeat of last year's Semi-Final.

Webster famously led 6-0 before MVG turned the tide to seal an 11-8 triumph and went on to lift the trophy, and the three-time champion looks like taking some stopping yet again as he steps his quest for a third TV title of the month.

Darting stalwart Steve Beaton came through a high quality clash with Jelle Klaasen on Stage Two earlier in the day and now finds himself on the verge of only a second televised Quarter-Final since 2010.

Standing in the way of 'The Bronzed Adonis' and a place in the Last Eight is rapid Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena - who whitewashed Keegan Brown on Friday before overcoming Mickey Mansell earlier today.

The other fixture on the Main Stage sees a resurgent Jan Dekker taking on Huddersfield debutant Peter Jacques.

Dekker has already put paid to the hopes of Michael Smith and Simon Whitlock and will be quietly confident of denying Jacques - a non Tour Card holder who reached a Players Championship final earlier in the year.

The pick of the matches on Stage Two features a show-down between World Grand Prix champion Daryl Gurney and the highly-rated Chris Dobey.

Second seed Gurney has been a model of consistency this year, reaching at least the Quarter-Finals of all 12 televised singles tournaments he has competed in, while Dobey will be brimming with confidence after knocking out Kim Huybrechts and Robert Thornton en route to this stage.

Former Premier League star Stephen Bunting enjoyed a fine win over Mensur Suljovic this afternoon, and 'The Bullet' looks to pick up from where he left off when he faces Jonny Clayton.

Clayton claimed the final ProTour title of the season and has looked impressive in defeating Jeffrey de Graaf and Welsh compatriot Gerwyn Price so far this weekend.

James Wade steps up his pursuit of a first major ranking Quarter-Final of 2017 when he meets Ian White - who has already seen off Van Barneveld and John Henderson.

Both players have been on a downward spiral in terms of their position on the Order of Merit this year, but a strong run here could see them climb back in the right direction at a crucial period in the darting calendar.

Elsewhere, William O'Connor, conqueror of Dave Chisnall in Round Two, aims to end the hopes of home favourite Justin Pipe - a player who often produces his best form at this venue.

The action gets underway from 1pm GMT at the Butlins Minehead Resort, with all matches to be contested over the best of 19 legs.
