Michael van Gerwen will begin his quest for a fourth consecutive World Series Finals title with a clash against either Maik Langendorf or Damon Heta in Vienna.

The annual invitational, which brings the curtain down on the World Series, features 24 players competing for £250,000 in prize money.

This year, the tournament will be held at the Multiversum Schwechat in Vienna, Austria, from November 2-4.

Van Gerwen has dominated the event since its inception in 2015, winning all three stagings to date and will kick off his title defence against either Australia's Heta or German qualifier Langendorf.

The top eight players from the World Series Order of Merit are seeded through to the Second Round and will each await either a ProTour Order of Merit qualifier, a Tour Card qualifier or a World Series Order of Merit qualifier.

Peter Wright, the number one seed and back-to-back runner-up in 2015 and 2016, will face either International Open champion Gerwyn Price or Hong Kong's Royden Lam in the Last 16.

World Champion Rob Cross, the number two seed, awaits the winner of the tie between World Championship semi-finalist Jamie Lewis and former World Youth Champion Dimitri van den Bergh.

World Matchplay champion Gary Anderson begins his bid for a fifth televised title of the year with a clash against either Dave Chisnall or Canada's Dawson Murschell.

James Wade, the newly-crowned European Champion, will take on Ross Smith for the right to face World Matchplay finalist Mensur Suljovic in Round Two.

Five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld lies in waiting for the winner of the tie between Australian ace Raymond Smith and former World Youth Champion Keegan Brown.

Simon Whitlock, runner-up in the European Championship, looks to continue his superb run of form when he meets either fellow Premier League star Daryl Gurney or former Lakeside Champion Steve Beaton.

A show-down with Shanghai Masters winner Michael Smith is the reward for either world number 12 Ian White or former Auckland Masters champion Kyle Anderson.

The full schedule of play will be confirmed in due course.
