Mensur Suljovic has climbed above Phil Taylor into eighth position in the PDC Order of Merit following his run to the Gibraltar Trophy final on Sunday.

The Austrian has moved back into the world's elite top eight after finishing runner-up to Michael Smith in the fifth European Tour event of the season and is less than £1,000 adrift of Jelle Klaasen in seventh.

Taylor continues to tumble down the standings as he scales down his appearances this season before officially retiring from professional darts following the World Championship.

The 16-time World Champion is yet to feature in a PDC ranking tournament in 2017 and now finds himself in his lowest ranking position for more than two decades.

Smith's £25,000 top prize in Gibraltar sees him close the gap on Raymond van Barneveld in tenth to less than £1,000 and opens up a significant gap between himself and Kim Huybrechts below.

Dave Chisnall occupies a career-high fifth position but is just £250 clear of James Wade, while Peter Wright continues to chase down Scottish rival Gary Anderson in second spot.

UK Open finalist Gerwyn Price is edging ever-closer to a place in the world's top 16 for the first time, with Alan Norris also hot on his heels.

Elsewhere, Rob Cross' incredible surge up the rankings in his first full season as a PDC Tour Card holder continues as he climbs to 58th following a third consecutive European Tour Quarter-Final appearance.
